The presentation focused on a local case study demonstrating how increasing the genetic diversity of crops can enhance resilience, food security, and sustainability in rural Croatia. The project explored participatory plant population development, in which diverse crop varieties are grown together and allowed to adapt naturally to local low-input organic conditions. Community cooperation, seed sharing, and local stewardship were highlighted as essential for preserving and further developing crop diversity. The ultimate goal is to create locally adapted, dynamic crop populations that can thrive under changing climatic, social, and economic conditions while supporting food sovereignty and affordable access to food.
